5 Ways To Prepare For A Legendary Baseball Season!

With winter break underway and us being home all the time, NOW is a great time to start getting into baseball mode!

Before offering a few tips, I want to explain why I believe it is important to prepare for the season in the first place…

…simply put, baseball is CHALLENGING!

The best players in the world are successful only 30% of the time!

Because baseball has so much failure intertwined into the game, I have seen MANY kids lose interest after having a bad tryout or start to the season.

They start to shut down, disengage, lose confidence as they dont think they are good enough!

This can make for a long, difficult season. It can even lead to them quitting…

This is why we recommend you dust off the gloves and bats THIS WINTER BREAK!

Here are 5 things you can do over Winter Break to set your child up for a STRONG START TO THE SEASON!

  1. PLAY CATCH and make it FUN! There is literally NOTHING more fun and more helpful for baseball skills than a game of catch! It’s even more fun when the parent gets into a little bit and plays pretend… Throw super high pop flys, practice pitching, pretend the world series is on the line… Have fun with it! The ability to play catch is the most important part of the game!
  1. Play whiffle ball! Whiffle ball is an activity the ENTIRE family can play. It helps with hand eye coordination and just gets the kids swinging the bat again. Throw down some bases, make a field and get the entire family out for a game! You can also play whiffle ball home run derby!
  1. Go to the batting cage! There are a number of free outdoor batting cages around that are open and free for community usage. Grab a bucket of balls and pitch your child some balls! Again, making it a competition or a game will make it more fun. If you dont know how to help your child with his swing, then let the baseball be the feedback; eventually your child will begin to self organize his movements once he begins to feel what he needs to do to drive the ball with power!
  1. Get a few private lessons! A quality private coach should help your child make noticeable improvements in a just a few sessions. Make sure you ask the coach what he taught your child so you can continue to work on things at home. We particularly recommend lessons for younger kids (8-10 years old) as bad habits start early and are often VERY difficult to break.
  1. Join the Legends Home Training Challenge! CLICK HERE to download and print the FREE challenge! Every time your child completes a task, a parent needs to initial the box. If all 25 challenges are completed by January 10th, you can email me a picture and I will send your child 1 Hall of Fame Baseball Card in the mail!

Hope these help!

Stay safe and LMK if I can ever be assistance to you and your family in your baseball journey.
