Legends Expands to Los Altos! June 28-July 2nd Camp Recap!

Legends Baseball Camps   This week, Legends Baseball Camps had the opportunity to expand into the South Bay, in a new location, Los Altos. Upon arrival, there was a feeling of eagerness and excitement from the campers of what was to come in the next five days. Legends Baseball Camps are known for their ability to bring fun and competition to the game of baseball, which many kids missed out on in the summer of 2020. As a result, the campers were loud, excited, and ready to start off the week. In the early days, the days are focused heavily on instruction. However, these drills given by the coaches have a fun twist on them. For example, the famous zombies ...

How To Help Your Child Earn More Playing Time

One of the most widely discussed and touchiest topics regarding youth sports is the topic of PLAYING TIME. While I know many are towards the end of their seasons, I still think this content will be helpful. This message is for those kids who are not getting as much playing time as they would like or they aren't playing the positions they want to play. This is written from the perspective of a Head Coach of over a decade. Before I offer some actionable tips, I want to make a potentially unpopular statement: playing time should NEVER be given. It should ALWAYS be earned! Success in this world is never given - why should playing time? What are we teaching ...

How To Help Your Child Stay Positive After A Tough Game

The best players in the world still “fail” 7 of 10 times. Baseball, as in life, is often unfair. A player can put a perfect swing on the ball, hit the snot out of it, but still get out! A pitcher can throw the best game of his life, but his teammates may not make the plays behind him and they will lose. Baseball is the most self-esteem destroying sport in the world, which is probably why many drop out at the age of 13. Baseball is very very difficult. Period. This blog post is for parents of players who are too hard on themselves and tend to get frustrated when not having “success on the field”. I am going ...

In the video update below, David Klein, Founder & Camp Director of Legends Baseball Camps, gives a short update on what the new C.D.C. summer camp guidelines mean for Legends camps and summer camps in general.  For day camps, the C.D.C. said that children two and up should wear masks at all times except when eating, drinking, swimming, or napping, and should be broken into small groups that interact only with each other. All campers must stay three feet from others in their cohort (six feet when eating or drinking) and six feet from everyone else (including their own counselors). Employees should be tested weekly if they interact with multiple camper groups. But really, ...

Our National Pastime Needs Tweaks

Is baseball dying? I’ll never forget the 2014 Summer of Legends Camps...  At the heels of 3 San Francisco Giants World Series Championships, every kid would show up to camp decked out in their Giants swag, their Buster Posey jerseys, the Pablo Sandoval Panda Hats.  Every kid knew every player on the Giants. Most kids attended camp for 2-3 weeks.  We had around 130 kids across 2 camp locations…  ...the Peninsula, and the Bay Area in general, was baseball crazy! 5 years later the baseball scene in the Bay Area is very different.  Even before the pandemic, numbers show baseball participation and engagement across the country is declining.  You can see it with the empty baseball diamonds on hot ...
